Obama Admits That Medicare and Social Security Are Going Bust
Written by Gary NorthPresident Obama’s proposed budget targets seniors. It proposes a different way of calculating the consumer price index. The new way will produce lower CPI figures.
Why is this important to the budget? Because Social Security and Medicare have built-in cost-of-living adjustments. By lowering the official CPI figure, which is used to calculate benefits, the government can save money.
Will this lower the rate of increase in prices? Of course not. Will this make it cheaper for seniors to live? Of course not. But it will make it appear that Medicare and Social Security are in a slightly shallower hole.

How deep is this hole? Prof. Lawrence Kotlikoff said it was $222 trillion last summer. It’s higher today. It’s probably pushing $230 trillion today. That’s the present value of future unfunded obligations.
Will Obama’s proposal change anything fundamental? No. But he thinks it justifies his call for higher taxes.
The proposal at least caught the attention of a New York Times columnist. He wrote:
But to Mr. Obama, cost-saving changes in the nation’s fastest-growing domestic programs are more progressive than simply allowing the entitlement programs for older Americans to overwhelm the rest of the budget in future years.
What was that word? Overwhelm. You read it in The New York Times.
Did you read that right? Yes. He used it again.
The president’s views put him at the head of a small but growing faction of liberals and moderate Democrats who began arguing several years ago that unless the party agrees to changes in the entitlement benefit programs — which are growing unsustainably as baby boomers age and medical prices rise — the programs’ costs will overwhelm all other domestic spending to help the poor, the working class and children.
“The math on entitlements is just not sustainable,” said Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, one of the few Democrats to unequivocally endorse Mr. Obama’s budget. “And if you’re not finding ways to reform, where do you squeeze? Well, then you squeeze early-childhood programs, you squeeze Head Start, you squeeze education and veterans.”
What’s that again? “Not sustainable”?
What has been the response of most Democrats in Washington? Some are outraged. Others are mute. A few are supportive.
How much will the proposed tinkering with the formula save the government? $230 billion. To which are added the obligatory words: “over ten years.”
So, it will save $23 billion a year. And how far is the retirement system in the hole? Maybe $230 trillion.
Why did Obama do this? It is his way to avoid sequestration, which he agreed to in 2011. He doesn’t want a slowdown in federal spending.
Will Republicans agree to the cuts? Of course not. They will campaign against him for proposing them. Representative Greg Walden of Oregon, who is the head of the House Republicans’ campaign committee, told CNN that the budget was “a shocking attack on seniors.” Conclusion: “His words were interpreted as a signal that in the 2014 midterm elections Republican candidates will again accuse Democrats of trying to cut Medicare and Social Security. . . .”
So, the Democrats are trying to blame House Speaker John Boehner. They say the cuts are his idea.
We are on the Titanic. We have hit the iceberg. So, let’s rearrange the deck chairs.
Another Federal Housing Bailout: FHA Needs $943 Million

You wouldn’t want a free market in housing would you? You would not want supply and demand to set the price of homes, would you? Of course not.
The housing market is a government-funded housing market. The mortgage market has a Bad Housekeeping Seal of Approval stamped on it. It was nationalized by the Secretary of the Treasury in September 2008, and it’s going to stay nationalized.
The Federal Reserve is counterfeiting half a trillion dollars a year in brand new digital money to keep the housing market “healthy.” This is the basis of the housing recovery. Without this, the housing market would be in the intensive care unit.
This is capitalism, USA. This is Uncle Sam’s version of It’s a Wonderful Life. This is Jimmy Stewart handing out his honeymoon money to depositors. But there is this difference. It’s not honeymoon money. It’s retirement money. And there is also this difference. It’s not his money. It’s yours.
What’s the problem at the FHA? It’s almost out of money. But what about all those loans it made? Too many of them have gone bad. Sorry about that.
For four years, the FHA has assured Congress that this was not a problem. Sorry about that.
What will Congress do about that? Hand out our money, of course. Congress will blame the FHA for making all those bad loans. It will blame the FHA for having misinformed Congress. Then it will reward the FHA to the tune of about a billion dollars. Lesson: nothing succeeds like failure.
How much money has it lent out? Over a trillion dollars.
Will this ever end? Not until the Great Default.

A mí siempre
me ha gustado más el batido de chocolate que la limonada.
En Cuba
siempre tomaba batido de chocolate, y la limonada solo algunas veces de
compromiso.
Lo que nunca
me gustó chupar el limón, no me gustaba el sabor tan acido..
Pero Fidel me
quitó el batido de chocolate y me dio unos limones.
En el 1961,
agarré los limones y vine para Miami, pero no me chupé los limones, hice
limonada con azúcar y así vivimos tomando limonada hasta que pude tomar otra
vez batido de chocolate.
Aquí he
tenido que oír las historias de los que se quedaron en Cuba, chupando los
limones, y algunos usándolos rectalmente.. Debe haber sido extraña esa acidez
rectal.
Ahora resulta
que me están amenazando con quitarme otra vez el batido de chocolate y darme
limones.
No importa,
ya yo sé hacer limonada si no queda más remedio.
Pero me da
lástima ver a algunos pidiendo que les den limones, porque si no saben cómo
hacer limonada, se los van a tener que chupar o usarlo rectalmente como en
Cuba..

Hay ciertas cosas cuya sutil
diferencia hace su percepción difícil de comprender para los que no las hayan
experimentado en su persona.
Una de ellas es la diferencia de una
dictadura autoritaria y una dictadura totalitaria. Los que tuvimos la
desgracia de vivir en una dictadura como la de Batista y después en una
dictadura como la de Fidel, pudimos experimentar el tipo de vida bajo los dos
sistemas.
En el régimen autoritario, aunque es
una vergüenza para el país que lo sufre, siempre que no se enfrente a la
autoridad del dictador, de una manera que ponga en peligro su permanencia en el
gobierno, el ciudadano puede tener una libertad de movimiento, una facilidad
para desenvolverse en su trabajo y su negocio, independientemente de su manera
de pensar. La libertad de expresión, aunque limitada al peligro que pueda
producir al dictador, también es parcialmente permitida.
En el régimen totalitario, no es
permitido al individuo llevar una vida manteniéndose al margen del pensamiento
del régimen. Toda la vida se ejecuta bajo las órdenes y a la sombra del
dictador, no hay libertad de movimiento, el individuo sólo trabaja para un gran
patrón, el gobierno, la empresa privada no existe, y la libertad de expresión a
todos los niveles es inexistente y prohibida.
La misma sutil diferencia
existe con la corrupción en los gobiernos. La corrupción es un
vicio humano, existe lo mismo en un gobierno que en una empresa privada,
a veces por el empresario, y otras veces por los empleados de la empresa.
En un gobierno, mientras más grande,
centralizado y poderoso es, hay más corrupción. En un gobierno
autoritario, por la autoridad del gobierno la corrupción se institucionaliza,
en un gobierno totalitario, por la total autoridad del gobierno, la
institucionalización de la corrupción es total.
En un país con una democracia
representativa, con la independencia de los poderes y la libertad de prensa, la
corrupción es controlada, porque los poderes se vigilan entre sí.
Existe, porque es una condición
humana, pero no es una corrupción institucionalizada, es una corrupción
personal en la que el corrupto corre el peligro de ser descubierto y perder su
posición y su libertad.
Cuando visitamos países de una
democracia socialista, como Méjico, y vemos como la corrupción es
institucionalizada a todos los niveles, nos recordamos de la Cuba de antes,
donde la corrupción institucionalizada sirvió de caldo de cultivo para los
males mayores que sufrimos después.
Pero la corrupción es el efecto del
gobierno grande y centralizado, si el gobierno es una democracia representativa
la corrupción no puede institucionalizarse.
La corrupción en una democracia
representativa, es causada por la naturaleza del individuo, la corrupción en un
gobierno socialista, es causada por el efecto del tipo de gobierno que
institucionaliza la corrupción. Es el resultado, no la causa.
El Misterio de
Babel AMENPER.
Todos nosotros que hemos tenido que
vivir en un país extranjero con una lengua que no es la nuestra, sabemos de los
misterios del idioma.
Aprender bien un idioma extranjero,
no es fácil, pero no es imposible.
Es como aprender matemáticas o
química, lo único que en vez de teoremas y formulas, se aprende vocabulario y
gramática del nuevo idioma.
Como toda acumulación de
conocimientos se pueden lograr diferente niveles de acercamiento a la
perfección. Hay personas que llegan a dominar el idioma extranjero mejor que
los nativos.
Pero el hablarlo, la pronunciación,
es algo diferente, y esto es lo que nos intriga de los misterios del idioma.
Hay personas que dominan el idioma
extranjero, pero siempre mantienen el acento de la lengua natal. Todos
conocemos el caso de una figura pública que puede servir de ejemplo, Henry
Kissinger.
Este es un caso típico, Kissinger
habla el idioma inglés mejor que el americano promedio, pero siempre mantiene
el acento gutural de su nativo alemán.
Yo hablé inglés antes que mis hijos,
pero según crecieron en este país ellos lo hablan con una pronunciación nativa,
y yo todavía mantengo mi acento español.
Se dice que una persona que aprende
un idioma después de cierta edad, que muchos consideran tan temprano como los
seis a nueve años, nunca lo habla, sólo imita los sonidos del nuevo idioma con
los fonemas del idioma nativo.
Esto es algo que he notado que
intriga a las persona que han sido monolingües toda su vida, pero que es
considerado como un hecho normal a los que hemos sido expuestos a una sociedad
multilingüe.
Esto nos trae a la historia de la
Torre de Babel.
Los que estudiamos en escuelas
religiosas, nos contaron en las clases de historia sagrada la historia de
Babel.
Según la historia, todos los hombres
hablaban un mismo idioma. Pero un día los hombres se endiosaron y
quisieron hacer una torre que llegara al cielo, y Dios los castigó creando los
diferentes idiomas que causaron la confusión y paralizaron la construcción de
la torre.
Con el tiempo esta historia se ha
considerado alegórica, como una manera de enseñar que no debemos considerarnos
omnipotentes como Dios. Pero hay personas que consideran que fue una historia
real.
Pero si vamos a las a las teorías
científicas sobre el idioma, hay cierta similitud con la historia de la Torre
de Babel.
Dicen que cuando nacemos “hablamos”
todos los idiomas, los balbuceos de los recién nacidos según estudios tienen
los fonemas de todos los idiomas.
En los recién nacidos, el
"período de balbuceo" se caracteriza por la gran cantidad y
diversidad de sonidos producidos y aun producibles. El niño selecciona entre
todos los sonidos posibles aquellos que integran el sistema de la lengua de sus
padres.
La transición del balbuceo al
lenguaje se efectúa por la nueva función de los sonidos como "sonidos del
lenguaje", es decir, por las relaciones fonológicas que van
seleccionándose.
El lenguaje se organiza en un todo
lógico y coherente.
Existen evidencias para suponer que el niño percibe las oposiciones en el modelo adulto mucho antes de que puedan producir los sonidos correspondientes.
La aparición de los fonemas no tiene nada en común con la producción del balbuceo, que tiende a desaparecer. Entonces los fonemas que quedan son los escogidos para el idioma de los padres y los otros fonemas desaparecen.

mismo tiempo, logrando una pronunciación fonética extendida que cubre el idioma
de los padres y el del medio en que se desarrolla.
¿Quiere esto decir que es real la
historia de Babel, que todos los hombres hablaban el mismo idioma?
Si pensamos que los niños al nacer
tienen la diversidad de sonidos de todos los idiomas, quizás podemos pensar que
todos realmente hablamos un solo idioma al nacer, y que después desechamos los
otros idiomas para sólo hablar el idioma de nuestros padres.
O sea que somos una representación en
nuestra persona de la historia de la Torre de Babel.
Pero las teorías son teorías, ya sean
científicas o religiosas.
La realidad del misterio del idioma
es, que el aprender un idioma es una cosa, y hablarlo es otra.

Hoy cumplo 79
años. Estoy entrando en el umbral de los “ochochentas”.
Aunque algunos
me dicen que hace ya algunos años que estoy “ochocheando”
Este año estoy
pensando en cambiar el carro, y si mi cuerpo fuera un carro, también estuviera
pensando en cambiarlo por un modelo más moderno.
Quiero aclarar que tanto mi carro automotriz, como el carro de mi cuerpo todavía sirven.
Están adecuados
para la transportación y viajes de placer aunque no tienen el rendimiento de
cuando eran más nuevos, y necesitan más mantenimiento.
Pero un carro
del año siempre sería más eficiente, sobre todo en el caso de mi cuerpo.
Tengo marcas y
abolladuras en toda mi carrocería.
Mis luces delanteras están fuera de foco, la luz larga tiene un defecto de fábrica por miopía, y según pasa el tiempo la luz corta también está fallando, me es difícil ver las cosas de cerca.

penoso, en ocasiones tengo salidas de gases involuntarias por el frente, en el
radiador, y en el tubo de escape trasero.
Pero como no
puedo cambiar el carro de mi cuerpo, tengo que disfrutar las millas que me
quedan, así como estoy. Uso cualquier grado de gasolina sin preocuparme a estas
alturas del daño que pueda producirme en el motor.
Como de todo, y
me tomo mi traguito de vez en cuando.
Siempre disfruto
mi copa de vino con las comidas, degusto “Le Bonne cuisine”, al final, mi
postrecito y mi cafecito cubano.
Para terminar mi
buen tabaco habano (de la pequeña Habana).
Me río de la
percepción del edaismo en el mundo, y disfruto mi edad, rescatando el pasado a través de la reminiscencia; con una
resignificación de lo vivido. Evocando lo bueno y olvidando lo malo
Porque cuando me
lleven al rastro, quiero haber tenido todas las millas recorridas con un máximo
aprovechamiento.

The recent threats by North Korea to begin making weapons-grade
plutonium from a nuclear power plant should be all the United States needs to
conclude that its policies of the past two decades have failed to significantly
reduce the nuclear weapons threat around the world.
Ironically, these failed policies directly correspond to a misguided
view in Washington of the relationship between commercial nuclear energy and
nuclear weapons. The overwhelming evidence regarding this relationship is
absolutely clear -- when American commercial nuclear technology is exported
around the world, safety and security increase. When it declines, safety and
security decrease.
American civil nuclear technology provided the foundation for
non-CO2-based electricity in Western Europe and Western Asia in the 1970s and
early '80s. This energy supply was the backbone for their growing economies and
the catalyst that raised their standard of living.
The technology transfer between the United States and those new nuclear
countries also transferred our ethic of responsibility and safety and broadened
the global security infrastructure between governments. The U.S. nuclear energy
"ethic" was based on transparency, exceeding regulatory standards,
self-criticism and defense-in-depth, and it provided a firm base for safe and
secure commercial nuclear energy in many new places.
Yet when U.S. policy in support of civil nuclear power declined in the
aftermath of Three Mile Island and in favor of other energy sources, that
global foundation began to erode. It was replaced with a paranoia about the
connection between American civil nuclear energy and nuclear weapons proliferation,
a view still held by many in Washington.
The loss of U.S. leadership in civil nuclear energy, which minimizes
weapons proliferation and maximizes public safety, has led to the expansion of
rogue nuclear technologies and a degradation of effective nuclear standards
around the globe. It was only a matter of time before totalitarian dictator
states like North Korea seized on this void.
The decline of American technical influence and its nuclear ethic was
clearly a contributor to the rise in nuclear weapons proliferation in India and
Pakistan. Although well-intentioned, the polices which isolate American civil
nuclear technologies from those that need them the most is not adding to our
safety or security; they are degrading them. Even recent debates with our
allies, like South Korea, emphasize an outdated paranoia versus the needed
industrial cooperation that actually assures lasting security between peaceful
nations.
We stand at a pivotal time for American energy leadership in the world.
Here at home, many of us are focused on the growth of natural gas as the next
great hope for our energy security and stability. Yet we overlook the fact that
our natural gas paradise is not shared across all parts of the world, nor is it
addressing the geopolitical problem of continued dependence on fossil fuels.
Meanwhile, we now are building the first new commercial nuclear reactors
in this country in more than 30 years, which gives us a unique opportunity to
reassert ourselves as a leader in civil nuclear energy and restore the nuclear
ethic sorely needed around the world.
There is reason for optimism. The recent American industrial
participation in the Chinese and United Arab Emirates programs allow our
industries and practices to embed themselves in these economies. American and
Chinese interests are uniquely interconnected with the success of the first
four new American reactors in China. Those projects enable our two countries to
transparently exchange technology, experience, people and economic value in a
way that is unique and will last for the 60-year lifespan of the reactors.
Additionally, our nuclear technology transfer agreements with China, often
misunderstood, do not weaken American leadership. Instead they cement American
involvement and create an interdependence that delivers long-term value to both
countries.
It's time for decision-makers in Washington and those who espouse policy
concerns about nuclear proliferation, global warming and nuclear safety to
re-examine the policies which limit American civil nuclear technology around
the world. Tensions on the Korean peninsula are a clarion call for the United
States to return to a nuclear energy policy that works by exporting our nuclear
know-how and ethic.
If we don't, North Korea will certainly not be the last rogue nuclear
threat we must contend with.

principio básico del principio de no agresión.
Escribe el notable economista de libre mercado Walter Block sobre el
tema:
"El axioma de no agresión es el eje central de la filosofía del
liberalismo. Declara, simplemente, que será legal para cualquier persona hacer
lo que quiera, con tal de que no se inicie (o amenace) la violencia contra la

1. Okay
folks, I know you think the C-Span Channel that broadcasts all those
Congressional hearings is boring, but, really, you should have been around to
watch the Senate Finance Committee's hearing Wednesday on the Affordable Health
Care Insurance Oversight.
2.
Folks, you haven't seen so many faces of misery since you watched Les
Miserables for three and a half hours...and they were all Democrats. And one of
them, Senator Max Baucus, was the primary sponsor of Obamacare in the Senate!
3. Now,
try to follow me here because this gets pretty complicated. (It seems that
Nancy Pelosi was right; you DO have to pass Obamacare to find out what's in
it...and the Democrats are now learning what the Republicans warned them about.
It's an unworkable mess that is throwing millions of Americans off the health
care rolls!)
4.
Okay, apparently, tens of thousands of American employers began throwing
workers off their health care plans and opting to pay the much lower federal
fine for not offering health care for their workers. Thousands more are even
now converting their full time workers to part time workers by limiting working
hours per week to less than 30, in compliance with Obamacare rules. (Remember
when Paul Ryan and the Republicans predicted employers would do this? Remember
when Democrats were warned that employers would move to save operating expenses
by moving their entire work force into federal healthcare exchanges?)
5. Now,
these workers who have lost their health care benefits are busy trying to sign
up for state health care exchanges. (There are Internet sites available if your
state has agreed to sign up to Obamacare). However, when these American
workers, soon to be without employee provided health care, go to the Health
Exchange to sign up, they are finding they are not qualified! It seems that
during the signup process, applicants are required to fill in various income
and benefit data, which then flows over to IRS computers who then are to spit
out what your premium costs will be and how much federal tax credits you'll
receive in order to receive subsidies to help you afford health care premiums
that are as much as 30% more than you were paying under your employer’s plan!
· Big
Problem! The IRS is only allowing somewhere around 9% subsidy support for
Obamacare Health care Exchange premiums that are priced so much higher than the
worker was paying under his employer plan! (Surprise, Surprise! Remember
Republicans warning that forcing working Americans to pay for the 30 million
leaches who pay nothing for their health care under Medicaid would drive the
premiums of working Americans higher?)
· Second
Big Problem! The IRS computers won't mate up with the Health Care Exchange
computers because the IRS computer system is obsolete! So when workers try to
sign up for Obamacare the IRS and the Health Exchanges are telling applicants
to go to pound sand!
6. And
so fireworks really broke out at the Finance Committee hearings on Obamacare
yesterday afternoon. Senator Max Baucus, (Dem), said.."how could this
happen?" I'm hearing from my constituents that they and their families
have been left out in the cold and are without health care because the
Exchanges are not accepting them!". Quote from Senator Bill Nelson, (Dem),
Florida "my constituents are not going to be happy to hear this
administration failed to implement the necessary changes to accommodate health
care applicants...someone has to pay for this!" Similar outrage was
professed by Senator Ron Wyden (Dem) from Oregon.

Sadly, Obama Program Director for the Health care Affordability Act was on hand
to lend testimony. All he could seem to do was sympathize with his Democratic
buddies, saying that maybe the problems could be ironed out by the end of 2014

An
Update! This morning a Harvard economics professor came on CNBC and announced
that, according to a federal study his group just completed, the Health and
Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, is going to be forced to come back
to this same committee, hat in hand, and request $700 billion dollars more be
allocated to Obamacare just to pay for those automatically covered under
current federal programs.
Also, sadly, the
Wall Street Journal reported that, in addition to the 30 million Americans not
currently covered under Obamacare, we can expect tens of millions more who will
be left in the "no health care Twilight Zone"; those who were doing
just fine with their employee health care plan until Obamacare was implemented
this year. And many of those who were working 40 hour weeks will find
themselves deemed "part time employees" working less than 30 hours
per week and unable to afford Obama's premiums even if they could get through
the application process.
And, as usual,
while the working poor and the rapidly declining middle class will be out in
the cold without any health care, the Medicaid/Welfare leaches have no worry.
They are covered by that $700 billion dollar pot of gold that Kathleen
Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services will be demanding from
Congress soon!
Sad.

Special Forces vets mark 7-month anniversary of Benghazi with call for more investigations
A group of former special forces and intelligence veterans released a new video commemorating the seven month anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya on Thursday.The video, “Benghazi: Unaware, Unresponsive, Unaccountable,” is a project of the non-partisan Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, Inc that took President Barack Obama to task last year for taking too much credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden.
OPSEC’s video walks through the events of the day and reiterates the contention that there remain unanswered questions about the attacks in Benghazi that left four Americans dead, including the ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens.
In January, Virginia Republican Rep. Frank Wolf introduced legislation to create a committee to investigate the attacks.
“All of this points to the critical need for a House select committee to comprehensively investigate the attack and the administration’s response,” Wolf said in a January statement. “The loss of four American lives and the strategic consequences of this deadly attack on a U.S. consulate merit a full investigation to ensure that the Obama administration is taking all necessary actions to identify the terrorists responsible and bring them to justice.”
The video is set to be distributed to over a thousand military blogs and websites, according to a representative for OPSEC.
